"I came to see Ali in September 2024. I was highly stressed 56 y/o man, in very poor physical and mental shape. From the moment I arrived I was absolutely convinced  that I had come to the right place. The compassion and care all the trainers gave me was incredible. I was expecting to be flogged into shape but that was not the approach at Altitude Fitness. I was given some stretching and mobility exercises to start off with, allowing my strained body to flex and loosen. I had concerns of hurting myself  but I have only felt stronger day after day. In the beginning I just started going to Yoga and Pilaties to repair my body,  getting it ready to gently begin a process of  building strength and flexibility. Strength

Step into our Strength Class, a time-tested and traditional

session that focuses on foundational strength. Anticipate the

classic big lifts — squat, bench, press, and deadlift —

complemented by conditioning support exercises.

We keep it chill, breaking it down into easy 6-8 week phases

to make sure you see those strength gains and notice some

real results. It's all about keeping it simple and getting stronger,

no frills needed!

"Strength Drop In" Session is a 90 minute strength session on Tuesday nights if people want to stay longer- do a 45 min, 60 min or 90 minute session.

Wholebody

Welcome to Whole Body, where every session is a surprise-

packed adventure designed by our legendary instructors. From

kettlebell workouts to bodyweight exercises, dumbbell

routines, circuits, and team challenges, be prepared for an

ever-changing, full-body experience that keeps you on your

toes. Embrace the variety and unpredictability as we guide you

through a dynamic mix, ensuring a well-rounded and engaging

Conditioning

Beginners are absolutely welcome; we'll teach you the ropes.

Cardio

Join our Sweat Session, the ultimate cardio-core experience

that promises not only to get your blood pumping but also to

leave you with a smile on your face. This energetic and

laughter-filled class combines heart-pounding cardio with a

core-strengthening focus, ensuring you'll feel both invigorated

and happily exhausted by the end. Leave feeling both

accomplished and uplifted.

Movement Lab

Is like group personal training with your own plan. You’ll come in, meet with a coach, and follow a personalised program designed around your goals. While you train, the coach walks the floor—correcting technique, keeping you motivated, and making sure every session moves you forward. It’s the best of both worlds: your own program, with real-time coaching support in a team environment.

Open Gym

Open Gyms, your personalised fitness playground. Whether you're flying solo, teaming up with a friend, or honing in on a specific strength set, our gym is your open canvas. Come in and make the space your own, utilising our equipment and facilities to tailor your workout to your individual needs and goals. Open Gym is available anytime their is another gym session being offered.

Yoga Flow

This session deepens your Yoga Flow practice. After exploring your potential through a series of flowing postures, you'll be guided into a 10-minute Shavasana at the end of class—a restorative pose that allows your body and mind to fully absorb the benefits of your practice. 60 minutes

Pilates

Our Pilates Studio Sessions are right in the heart of the gym's vibrant energy. Experience a harmonious blend of lengthening, toning, and sculpting exercises that activate stabilising and trunk muscles, creating a balanced and resilient foundation. Infused with mobility and stretching, this class not only nurtures your physical well-being but also invigorates your mind, perfectly complementing the dynamic atmosphere of the gym.

Yin Yoga

Find balance and stillness in Yin Yoga. Targeting connective tissue, tendons, and ligaments, this practice improves joint mobility and flexibility. Poses are held for longer in this session. Join us for a deep, satisfying practice that activates the parasympathetic nervous system.

Unwind

What a way to finish the week!

Join us in the studio for a beautiful nourishing stretch to close out you week and kick off the weekend.

Roll & Release

Saturday morning social club. Come in and have a laugh while combining trigger point, foam rolling, stretching, and release work. This class is great to reduce pain, stiffness, and aches.

Mobcore

Half way between Yoga and Pilates. Enhance flexibility, strength, and overall well-being in our dynamic Mobility and Core class. Join us to move more efficiently and reduce the risk of injury.

Gentle Yoga

Re-create balance and harmony in body and mind with Gentle Yoga. Mobilize and stabilise joints while using a slow, calm breath to create space and ease in each pose. Ideal for those with injuries or specific needs, our teachers will guide you through each pose for a personalised experience.

Beginners Yoga

This class is perfect for those who are new to yoga or looking to revisit the fundamentals. Each session will focus on building a strong foundation in key yoga poses, breathwork, and alignment principles.

Meditation Class:

Reset, Recharge, and Reconnect

Have you heard of the vagus nerve, nervous system, or somatic work? Our combined Breath and Meditation class is designed to provide a safe and nurturing environment where you can explore the profound impact of breathwork and meditation on your mind and body. We begin with journaling to help clear your thoughts and set intentions, followed by 2-3 mini breath exercises that allow you to connect with your breath and reset your nervous system. Finally, we conclude with a soothing meditation that incorporates the breathwork techniques you've just learned, guiding you into a deep state of relaxation and mindfulness. With a growing body of evidence supporting the benefits of breathwork, especially in training the vagus nerve, you’ll leave the class feeling calm, grounded, and with a profound sense of peace and clarity. This class is your opportunity to recharge and reconnect, leaving the stresses of daily life behind as you embrace the power of breath and meditation.

I’ve been attending gyms in QLD and NSW, on and off since the early 90s and AFA is one of those health clubs where I stick around for years. Unlike the big names and franchises, all the trainers get to know you and your needs. There is always someone to greet you with a smile and a conversation; I still want to go when motivation is lower; AND even if you are working on your own program you feel like you’re part of group, and something bigger.

What makes AFA different to other gyms/trainers?

AFA is led by the inspiring Ali Flynn, one of Armidale’s most respected Personal Trainers, and backed by a team of knowledgeable and dedicated staff. Our class sizes are capped, guaranteeing personal attention and technique guidance for every person. It’s not a ‘one size fits all’ approach — we take the time to get to know you personally and to understand your fitness and wellbeing goals so that we can help you achieve them. We understand the role that psychology plays in your success and we help you transform your thinking from training because you have to, to training because you want to.

Now combined with Soul Studio, your membership goes beyond strength and fitness — you’ll also have access to yoga, Pilates, meditation, breathwork, and restorative practices that calm your mind and balance your body. Our incredible staff want to see you fly, and take the time to teach you correct technique so that you can confidently walk into any gym. Can I claim my membership through my Private Health Insurance Fund?

Depending on your Private Health Insurance provider and policy, you may be eligible for a rebate on your fees. It is important to remember that all health funds are different and offer different services - you will need to check with your service provider whether you are entitled to any rebates. In some cases an invoice or receipt of payment may be needed and this can be obtained by contacting the team via [email protected]. Sometimes, a GP referral may be required to indicate that the fitness program is necessary due to an existing health or medical condition.

I’m not very fit. Can I still train with AFA or will I be intimidated or fall behind?

Absolutely! Many of our clients are returning after a break or starting their very first fitness journey — and that’s exactly who we’re here for. We pride ourselves on catering for all levels in every session, creating a supportive environment where you feel accepted, encouraged, and never judged.

We also offer beginner-friendly classes and our Movement Labs, where coaches guide you step by step through technique and individual exercises so you can build confidence at your own pace. Plus, with the addition of Soul Studio, you’ll have access to yoga, Pilates, meditation, and breathwork — the perfect way to start gently, restore your body, and grow into your fitness journey when you feel ready.

What should I wear? Is there anything else that I need to bring to sessions?

Dress in something comfortable. Most people wear shorts, 3/4 pants or long trackies and a comfortable top that covers the back of your pants. You will also need a pair of sand shoes and can talk to anyone on the team about where to go if you don’t currently have a pair. A water bottle, towel and jumper will also help you to get the most out of your sessions.

Do you offer pre and postnatal services?

Yes! Our staff are trained in both pre and post-natal training and can safely and effectively guide you through your workouts.

How long are sessions?

45 minutes for all excluding Yoga Flow which is 60 minutes

Do I book classes ahead or just turn up?

Yes, you need to book a class in advance. You can do this through our booking system, which you will receive via email. This ensures that we can manage class sizes effectively and provide the best experience for everyone. Please check your email for the booking link and follow the instructions to reserve your spot in the class.

Can I bring a friend?

We understand the importance of accountability and the social component of fitness. At AFA we encourage you to bring a friend, housemate, work colleague or partner to increase your long term success rate. It is a well-researched fact that you are much more likely to attend fitness if you are accountable to someone outside of yourself.

Is AFA and Soul Studio the same place/business?

Yes — we used to be two separate businesses, but we’ve now merged to bring you even more value under one roof. Altitude Fitness Armidale (AFA) and Soul Studio are located on the same premises and now operate as one community. That means with a single membership you get the best of both worlds

Can you help to keep track of my progress?

Absolutely! Not only do we help you to set goals but we keep track of your progression towards achieving them. You will have the option of taking part in regular fitness testing to monitor your progress.

Can I do PT ?

No, we no longer offer personal training services. Previously, we had a two-year waiting list, so we've shifted to a model that allows us to train together in a supportive community of like-minded individuals. This approach helps everyone thrive as a group
